To make the most of your weekend getaway in BC, below are my top six recommendations for things to do while you're in Pow Town. Whether it's cheering on the Powell River Kings, hiking the beautiful Sunshine Coast Trail, or tasting our local brews at Townsite Brewing, this city has something for everyone to enjoy.

Sunshine Coast Trail + The Knuckleheads
The Sunshine Coast Trail is an incredible network of trails that Powell River residents are spoiled to be able to readily enjoy. My favourites are Tin Hat, Elk Lake, and Walt Hill. If you're feeling even more adventurous, take on Sentinel Ridge and reach out to touch The Knuckleheads at the summit.

Powell River Kings at Hap Parker Arena
Junior A hockey is an event that many locals enjoy on weekends in PR. No need to book a ticket in advance - just show up at Hap Parker Arena before the puck drops and cheer on the local team.

Lund + Savary Island
Debated as the start or the end of Highway 101, Lund is a village tucked away from the main town that feels like another getaway in itself. Visit Pollen Sweaters for some shopping, and don't miss a cinammon bun at Nancy's Bakery or an ice cream at Sassy Mack's if it's warm.

Townsite Brewing
Powell River is home to an award-winning brewery. Visit Townsite Brewing for a delicious taste of the town. Their tasting room will charm you as you try out the favourites: Blackberry Festivale, Zunga and Shiny Penny.

Willingdon, Donkersley + Mahoods Beach
As "the pearl of the Sunshine Coast", Powell River lives up to its name with stunning beaches. Willingdon Beach is conveniently located in town and includes a park and trail. Mahoods is often empty and stretches with beautiful sand. Donkersley Beach is the community's favourite. What is Powell River's top beach? Only you can be the judge.

Swing on a zunga
You'll only hear this word in Powell River - it's not a "rope swing", it's a zunga. With such a hyperlocal term, it's only fair that you test one out yourself while on your BC weekend getaway. If you can find some zungas, be sure to give it a go.
